You want to know: Is Jordan safe right now?
Yes, Jordan is safe to visit and you are most welcome to visit us and experience our small country with a big heart for yourself!
We understand that you might have some questions and concerns about the current situation in Jordan given our proximity to Syria, Gaza, and Lebanon, the news headlines that paint the region with a wide brush, and government travel warnings for neighboring countries. On this page, our goal is to answer as many of those questions as possible and provide you with updated and transparent information about the situation in Jordan. The last thing we want is for any visitor to feel unsafe or uncomfortable in our country.
We will try to keep this page and information updated as much as we can, but please feel free to send us an email - info@jordanalluretours.com or reach out to us on social media at any time if you have any other questions about safety or traveling to Jordan.
Meanwhile, in our world…
The olives have just been harvested, and each family has brought their share to the local olive press. We drink tea and wait while the olives are pressed, and our bushels of olives that everyone helped pick are returned to us as liquid gold… fresh extra virgin olive oil! Jordan’s olive oil is rich and buttery, but you will need to travel here to try it as it is not widely exported.
In the last decades, Jordan has shown the world that our hospitality is not only for travelers, but it’s also for when our neighbors need a helping hand, like the more than 4 million Palestinians, Iraqis, Yemenis, Circassians, and Syrians who have come to our country looking for safety. Our hearts have welcomed them and provided safe refuge, showing solidarity with the oppressed and peace in action. Even as a visitor, you can even choose to support the businesses that help refugees or, for example, are owned by people of the Palestinian and Syrian diasporas whose families came to Jordan.
If you prefer to wait to visit Jordan, we understand. We look forward to welcoming you in the future when you will experience this genuine hospitality for yourself. We hope that you will reach out to us to plan your trip so that you can enjoy our world-class sites, delicious cuisine, traditional culture, and pristine nature to the fullest.
Our real concern every day…
The Times of London has just published an article illustrating that now is a safe and wonderful time for a family trip to Jordan. (Linked here - if you look closely, you can even see our family’s mosque in the video!) In the article, the tour guide is quoted saying “Jordanians aren’t scared of missiles overhead - just the economics.” We fear the undertourism we are experiencing will never end. Nearly everyone who works in the tourism sector has gone without a stable income for more than a year now. Your decision to spend your travel budget here makes a REAL difference in the communities you will visit… and in return we know that you will have an incredible travel experience with us!
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Jordan safe?
Yes, Jordan is a safe travel destination. These are the pieces of evidence we can offer:
The U.S. State Department has assigned Jordan the same travel advisory level as Italy and Germany (linked here). This rating has been updated but has not been elevated at any time since the conflict began last October. We invite you to check with the appropriate ministry in your home country for additional detail.
International flights in and out of the country continue to operate.
We have welcomed visitors, including solo female travelers, each month since the conflict began.
This is not the first time we have had to witness violence in our region, unfortunately. However, Jordan has earned the nickname “the Switzerland of the Middle East” for its ability to remain secure during the regional conflicts of the past 50 years.
Our team is on the ground, and we will be honest with you, our most valued guests, as to what is happening in the day-to-day. Since last October, our daily lives have proceeded like normal - the children go to school, families are gathering, and the tourists who have looked beyond the headlines are enjoying the sites of Jordan with no crowds.
What if the situation changes?
We are prepared to adapt your itinerary to your needs, if the situation changes. This is what we did for our guests who were traveling in Jordan in March 2020 at the time that the pandemic began. Your safety is our utmost concern.
What is the perception of Westerners?
Westerners visiting Jordan will find exceptional hospitality, particularly when traveling as a guest of Jordan Allure Tours. Jordanians view people as individuals, regardless of government actions. In times of international tension, discussions on politics and peace are common, and you will find that you are invited to share your perspective over tea or coffee.
Is Jordan Allure Tours offering flexible booking and cancellation terms?
Yes, we are working with clients individually to determine a more flexible policy that suits the current situation - please inquire directly about your intended trip. Our clients tell us that we are the most flexible travel company they have ever booked with, anywhere in the world!
