Modest dress is the norm for locals, so if you want to be respectful of that tradition, you may also dress modestly, especially when visiting a home. Some Jordanians wear traditional clothing, while others wear the latest western fashions. Some women choose to wear a headscarf (hijab), others do not. Here, men do not wear shorts and women cover their shoulders and knees. Packing or purchasing a lightweight scarf or pashmina shawl will enable you to be prepared for these different settings.
